As part of an international research collaboration, a new publication explores interactions among subskills in second/foreign language (L2) writing.

The study aimed to explore the nature of interactions among L2 writing subskills. Two types of relationships were investigated: subskill–item and subskill–subskill relationships. The findings highlight the importance of understanding these relationships for accurate diagnostic assessment of students. The results showed that L2 writing subskills contribute additively and independently to the probability of successful performance. More importantly, the study also revealed that neglecting inter-subskill relationships can lead to the misclassification of students.

This research provides valuable insights into improving diagnostic accuracy in language writing assessments.
